What is Grandparent Chronicles?

A hashtag became a memory keeper. A memory keeper became a story world.

Grandparent Chronicles began as a hashtag—a simple way for me to gather the moments I wanted to find again on social media: the funny sayings, discoveries, questions, and ordinary days that felt too meaningful to lose.

What started as a way to revisit memories became a way to preserve family stories, honor what grandchildren teach us, and turn shared moments into something lasting. It is a living record of love, curiosity, growth, and legacy—told through the eyes of a grandmother learning to notice the world all over again.

The Adventures of Elias and the Moon grew from that idea. By observing my grandson Elias and his fascination with the universe, I saw how one child’s questions could open an entire world of imagination, simple science, and connection. Every story and companion coloring book carries that spirit forward.

The memories came first. The books are how they continue.

The class gathers

My name is Mr. J, and today is the first day of school. I asked my whole first grade class to come sit with me in a big circle on the rug, right in the middle of the room.

“Before we start,” I said, “does anybody want to know a secret about me?”

Twenty hands shot up in the air.

The secret begins

“When I was a little boy, just about your age, the moon gave me superpowers.”

A few kids gasped. One boy in the front row said, “No it didn’t!”

I smiled. “It’s true. Want me to tell you the whole story?”

The whole circle leaned in close.

“It all started,” I said, “with a little boy named Elias, who loved looking up at the night sky. That boy was me.”

Reaching for the stars

It was almost Christmas. Elias and his mom were hanging ornaments on the tree, one shiny star at a time. Mom knelt down and looked at him. “Elias, you are so bright and so smart,” she said. “I want you to keep reaching for the stars and chasing every one of your goals.”

A bright idea

Later that night, Elias pressed his hand against the cold window. One bright star shined above the trees. “Reach for the stars,” he whispered to himself. “I know just what to do.”

A little help from the Moon

Elias climbed into bed and looked out at the sky. The Moon was shining right outside his window. “Moon,” Elias whispered, “will you help me reach the stars tonight?” The Moon smiled back at him. “I can absolutely help you, Elias. Let me tell you a secret first.”

A cranky morning

Elias woke up before his alarm. His blanket was all twisty and his pillow had fallen to the floor. And his tooth, the wiggly one, felt strange. He didn't feel like getting up. “Ugh,” he mumbled into his pillow. “I don't wanna get up so early.” Elias was cranky. He could hear his mom, Lexi, in the kitchen making breakfast, so he knew it was time to get up and get moving.

Something good

After brushing his teeth and washing his face, Elias made his bed and went into the kitchen to eat breakfast. At the table, Omi was already eating pancakes with a big smile. “I picked breakfast,” she said proudly. Mom looked at Elias. “That means it's your turn to pick dinner tonight. Anything you want,” Mom said with a big smile. Elias sat up a little straighter. A smile crept onto his face. Finally, he thought. Something good.

Good different

Elias woke up all by himself. No alarm. No mumbling. He stretched his arms up high and smiled at the ceiling. Today felt different. Good different. “I feel happy today,” he said out loud, just to hear it.

Getting good at the game

Elias stood on his stool in the bathroom, brushing his teeth in circles like Mom showed him. He stopped and looked in the mirror. Where do I brush my teeth? he thought. Right here. Every morning. Why do I brush my teeth? Because Mom said germs live on teeth, and brushing chases them away. He grinned at himself with a mouth full of toothpaste. “I'm getting good at this game,” he said.

“Wonder becomes new again when you see it through a child’s eyes.”

A note from KeKe Snyder

These stories began with observation.

Becoming a grandmother made me softer, sweeter, and more patient, but also more observant. The “littles” watch us closely, and I found myself watching them with the same care.

Elias’s love of the planets and the Moon changed the way I looked at the sky. His wonder amused me, inspired me, and made the universe feel new. These books grew from that shared practice of noticing.
